Shree Bastipur Secondary School: Historical Background

The school was established in 2004 B.S. by Mr. Mitralal Giri and Pt. Vishwa Ranjan Baral, education enthusiasts with progressive and democratic ideals. They dedicated themselves as self-sacrificing social workers from the small village of Bastipur. Bastipur has played a leading role in the educational history of the Siraha district by providing informal education in both English and Sanskrit to village children, who used ink made from clay and kalo pati for studying. This initiative was part of a political revolution aimed at awakening society.

Dignitaries like Rana Prime Minister Shri Padma Shamsher J.B.R supported the establishment of Shree Teen Padma Middle School after continuous efforts, culminating in its approval on the auspicious occasion of Ganga Dussehra in early 2004 B.S. Mr. Mandeep Giri contributed by hosting the school on his property. Mr. Mitralal Giri, Dr. Jayanarayan Giri, Pt. Vishwa Ranjan Baral, Dr. Iswar Baral, Lavkush Giri, Hemnath Acharya, Tika Bahadur Koirala, Shri Jagurt Bahadur Raut, and others actively participated in building the school. Mr. Motilal Mishra supported the construction with timber, including windows and doors measuring about 40 cubits. During his college studies in India, Mr. Padma Naveshwar Baral Jee believed in the social service of education as a virtuous act, laying the foundation as the founding Principal of the school.

Young college students like Mr. Hariprasad Giri, Khemranjan Baral, Yadvaranjan Baral, Dr. Maniranjan Baral, and others volunteered during vacations, supporting teaching, sports, and cultural activities at the school. With continuous efforts, Bastipur High School received government approval in 2012 B.S. under the leadership of dedicated social workers serving on the board. The school started secondary education systematically, maintaining student numbers while enhancing enthusiasm and service-oriented values among the management. Dedicated teachers, committed to their duty with honesty and perseverance, have made the school a center of learning and productivity.

In 2015 B.S., among the first batch of students, Mr. Surendraranjan Baral secured third position in the board exams, while Mr. Laxman Prasad Acharya achieved fourth position with an impressive 84% score. As academic results improved annually, students from distant districts began enrolling, necessitating the construction of hostels for the increasing number of out-of-village students.

Mr. Mitralal Giri, Chairman of the school, faced challenges during the autocratic Panchayat regime in Nepal from Poush 1, 2017 B.S, leading him to seek refuge in neighboring India for his safety. To maintain stability, Vice-chairman Pt. Vishwa Ranjan Baral assumed leadership of the executive committee. Mr. Vishwaranjit Baral, deeply committed to the school's mission, contributed significantly to its physical infrastructure and administration through his dedication and sacrifices.

The school continued to progress, achieving top scores in regional examinations in 2037 B.S. Mr. Chandraranjan Baral, following Padma Naveshwar Baral's retirement due to health reasons, took over as principal in 2038 B.S., overseeing the school's comprehensive development with support from Mr. Mitralal Giri, former headmaster Mr. Padma Naveshwar Baral, and others. The school's achievements were recognized with the Purvanchal Regional Education Shield during the National Education Day of 2039 B.S., enhancing its reputation across Nepal. The influx of students led to expanded hostel facilities and improved dining arrangements.

Despite setbacks on Poush 9, 2044 B.S., which claimed the life of Mr. Mitralal Giri, chairmen after him, Mr. Jagat Bahadur Raut, Lavkush Giri, Ganga Prasad Yadav, Kisunlal Chaudhary, Jagveer Yadav, Dukhi Mahato, and Fanindra Bahadur Raut continued to provide dedicated support. Mr. Chandraranjan Baral's retirement in 2052 B.S. led to Mr. Satishchandra Yadav assuming the principal's role, contributing to the school's continued progress until his resignation in 2060 B.S.

After his resignation, Mr. Rajdev Yadav, the former vice-principal, became the new principal of the school. During his tenure, Mr. Dhanilal Yadav and Mr. Harinarayan Paswan successively served as presidents of the school management committee. Under their leadership, the school developed in all aspects and obtained approval for the 10+2 program in 2066 B.S. The management and educational faculties were established for the 10+2 level, with Mr. Birendra Yadav appointed as the coordinator.

Following Mr. Rajdev Yadav, Mr. Subodh Nayak, Mr. Ram Narayan Sah, and subsequently Mr. Devendra Yadav served as principals. During this time, Mr. Chandeshwar Sah and Saligram Giri served as the chairmen of the SMC. Due to internal issues, Mr. Devendra Yadav was relieved of his post. Currently, Mr. Ramji Shah, who has taught English at the school for a considerable period, holds the position of principal. Mr. Umesh Yadav is the Chairman of the SMC at present. The school's buildings, which played a crucial role in societal transformation, are now old and dilapidated, contributing to a decline in educational standards. There is a pressing need to revitalize this institution, which has produced numerous doctors, engineers, teachers, leaders, and other prominent figures. The new principal has many responsibilities and challenges. It is the collective hope of the community that his tenure will be successful, drawing inspiration from the school's illustrious history.
